Sending Number 76 (376050)

This card is going to a person in FINLAND who had a specific request to NOT get "boring" landscape cards. Oh, she said it in a nice way, so I wasn't offended. She also gave a list of special wishes for cards. One of the things she requested was "The little polar bear"; I didn't know about this until I searched for it and found out it was a cartoon. Well, I didn't have anything to fit that, but I did have this:
Since I spend some time at the San Diego Zoo yesterday, I thought this would be a great card to send, don't you think? Sure, it's not a cartoon; but who would want a cartoon when you can have the real thing? Plus, how can you not love that little frolicking step?

This is the message we are sending:

Hello from San Diego, California. This isn't "The little Polar bear" but it's the real thing. Hope you like it. This is from the world famous San Diego Zoo. They really do a lot there to make the world better for animals. We are lucky to be so close to visit often.

The San Diego Zoo is world famous for many reasons, mostly their research efforts. I have an employee who is very much into animal rights and all that jazz; when she found out we were going on a field trip to the zoo she was very upset. She didn't want to go to a place that treated animals this way and just put them on display.

After going to the show they did for the school children, she turned around her attitude. They made her realize that what they do isn't just putting animals on display. There's research and repopulation of endangered animals going on all around the zoo and the animal park; as well as putting these animals out so millions of people can see them actually helps the animals in the wild. When you see what's out there, you care more for it. If we didn't have zoos, people wouldn't be aware of some of those animals and, as a result, wouldn't care about those animals and wouldn't think of the effect their actions would have on them.

We're going back again this year and we haven't heard a single complaint from her. Oh, she's still all about the animal rights; but she has seen the good things that these places do to help these animals and what a great asset they are to nature.
