And the stamp. I finally know what a moomin is; all this time I have seen request for moomin cards and NOW I have seen what a moomin is!
The handwriting (isn't it almost sickeningly perfect?). Okay, maybe not sickeningly, but it is way more perfect that I could ever write.
Hey Robert and Jennifer!
Terveiset tuhansien jarvien maasta! :) Greetings from the country of thousands of lakes!
Did you know that we have almost 188000 lakes in Finland? Many Finns have their own summer cottage on a lake shore, where they spend their summer holidays relaxing and enjoying the silence and the beautiful lake scenery. Could you imagine more peaceful and more wonderful place to spend your time in? :)
However, now it's almost winter here and we should have our first snow within few weeks. It's already freezing cold outside, at least here in J (in Eastern Finland) where I live..
Anyway, I hope you like my card! :)
Happy postcrossing!
Take care,
M
BTW, that white creature in the stamp is called "muumipeikko". Moomin characters are very well-known in Finland..
***************************
Did you know that there is a state here in the USA (Minnesota) that is called the land of a thousand lakes? I think that's a pretty cool connection there.
I also am glad that I finally know what people are talking about when they mention Moomin. We don't have those here at all. For those of you how are familiar with it, what's it like? Is it a show? Is it funny? Enlighten us Americans.
Also, our language lesson of the card:
Terveiset tuhansien jarvien maasta! means Greetings from the country of thousands of lakes!
Hey Robert and Jennifer!
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Finland.. I send you that lake scenery card and it's nice you liked it! :)
You asked about Moomies, so I guess I should enlighten you..
The Moomins (in Finland we call them 'Muumit') are created by Finnish writer Tove Jansson. She wrote nine books and also a comic strip of Moomins between 1945 and 1993.
Since those books were released, The Moomins have been the basis for films and 101 television series ('Muumilaakson tarinat' in Finnish). And we also have a Moomin theme park in Finland, in Naantali.
I hope that description helped..
Take care and happy postcrossing,
Marika
